10 years ago – April 23, 2003

A son, Dillon Alan Longdo, was born March 29 to Todd and Peggy Longdo, Eau Claire.

A daughter, Hannah Karinne Schindler, was born April 10 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chippewa Falls, to Tina K. Schindler, Colfax.

Members of the 1978 state basketball championship team were honored on the 25th anniversary of the feat at a program during the annual alumni tournament April 19.

The Colfax class of 1991-93 won the alumni basketball tournament with a 64-37 win over the 1987-90 team. Members of the winning team were Brady Connell, Dave Irwin, Ryan Butterfield, Neil Micheels, Brandon Topper and Marty Osterberg.

25 years ago – April 21, 1988

Named King and Queen for the Colfax High School Junior Prom April 10 were Wally Jenson and Jenny Hill.

A daughter, Lauren Theresa, was born to Cindy (Rye) and John Castillo April 13 in Santa Monica, California.

A familiar sight on area farms this past week had farmers getting an early start on planting with many of them already seeding oats.

35 years ago – April 27, 1978

A fire early Friday evening, April 21, completely destroyed the barn on the Terry Stearns residence, Route 1 Colfax. An attached milkhouse was also damaged.

1978 Junior Prom King and Queen for Colfax High School are Rollie Sundby and Merri Wilson.

The Colfax boys track and field team, under the direction of Dave Wolff lost a meet 83-44 against Elmwood as Mark Lofthus won the discus and shot put, Jeff Luer won the mile and two mile run and Jerry Marko won the 440 yard dash and pole vault.

50 years ago – April 25, 1963

In a candlelight setting at the Hay River Lutheran Church near Wheeler April 20, Marlys Irene Smestuen of Wheeler became the bride of Ronald R. Muszynski if Elk Mound.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Strand are the parents of a son born April 15 at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.

Following 14 day leaves spent with home folks, Archie Rostamo Jr. and Danny Hilson left Thursday for further duty with the Navy.

65 years ago – April 29, 1948

The Colfax Boy Scouts’ donkey basketball game was a smashing success when more than 300 people attended the comedy contest at the local high school. Total admission of $147.00 was taken in and after taxes were deducted, the Boy Scouts netted $62.99 as their share of the proceeds.

Champion of the intramural heavyweight wrestlers at St. Olaf College is Stuart Barstad of Colfax. Barstad, a freshman had never wrestled in high school but caught on quick to the sport.

16-year-old Lillian Olson was awarded the coveted honor of being selected to attend the Badger Girls State educational camp on the University of Wisconsin campus June 22-29.

100 years ago – May 2, 1913

Harold Hanson, twenty years of age, who was taking treatment at the hospital in Chippewa Falls for tuberculosis, died there Saturday. The deceased had but few relatives in this country, having come from Norway a short time ago.

Miss Martha Michaelson has resigned as teacher in the grades of our village schools, and Miss Frances Riley of Eau Claire has been engaged to fill the vacancy.

Mrs. Mary J. Eaton passed away last Saturday from heart failure during a hernia operation at the hospital in Eau Claire. She was 52 years old and leaves behind her husband Charles and 10 children, many who live in the Colfax or Norton area.
