MICHAEL “MIKE” LAGERSTROM

Micheal “Mike” Lagerstrom, age 64, of Boyceville, left his earthly home and entered his heavenly home on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 with his wife, son and pastor by his side at Mayo Clinic Health System-Menomonie.

Mike was born January 12, 1949 to Vance and Klover (Frantz) Lagerstrom in Glenwood City, Wisconsin. He graduated from Boyceville High School and was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyceville. He married Lynelle Lohfink on September 29, 1967 in Connorsville, WI at Grace Lutheran Church.

Mike and Lynelle resided in the Boyceville area where Mike was employed by the Dunn County Highway Department for 36 years. He retired following injuries sustained in a fall while climbing to his deer tree stand causing him to become a quadriplegic. He faced that challenge with courage, grace, dignity and no self-pity. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow and learn; never wanting to miss any of the activities they were involved in.

He loved being outside in his hand controlled golf cart with his pull behind mower; helping his grandchildren, Michael and Marki work on the yard. Mike enjoyed reading, especially anything involving sports and history. He also took the time watch all of the Packer and Brewer games possible. He always looked forward to family and friends stopping by for a visit.

Before his accident, Mike spent many hours hunting and fishing. These times spent with his son brought him much joy and created great memories. His out west hunting trips with his buddies were also something he loved and had lots of stories to tell and reminisce about.

Getting together for the holidays and birthday parties (unless it was held during deer or turkey season) brought a great deal of happiness to Mike. He loved his in-laws all talking loudly with four or five different conversations going on all at one time and watching and teasing the little ones and being involved in some really wicked water fights and somehow politics would get thrown into the mix. He enjoyed getting a reaction from his Republican relatives.

Mike felt truly blessed to have such great neighbors like Bob and Candy, Al and Marlys, and Jeff and Mary to call upon for help. Trails were made for Mike to ride his golf cart. They made sure that the snow was plowed and if there were any sort of repairs that needed to be done, they were all there. This meant a lot to Mike and he was always grateful. He will be remembered for his love of family, friends and life every day. He fought a tough battle and now he has won.

Mike is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lynelle; son, Jay (Karen) Lagerstrom; grandchildren, Michael, Marki and Mya; mother Klover Lagerstrom, brother Leonard (Mary) Lagerstrom all of Boyceville; Brothers-in-law: Bill Labaree of Cottage Grove, MN, Tom (Liz) Lohfink of Boyceville; sisters-in-law Ginger (Butch) Hoff of Boyceville, Tami (Dave) Fetter of Hudson; as well as nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Vance; sister Judi Labaree; father- and mother-in-law Louis and Roselyn Lohfink and also aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyceville with Pastor Brad Peterson officiating. Visitation was on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.
