10 years ago – March 5, 2003

After winning their first two regional games, the number one seeded Elk Mound girl’s basketball team lost the regional championship game against number two seed Arcadia 47-41 in Arcadia. Stefanie Irwin led the Mounders with 22 points and the team ended the season with a record of 17-6 under coach Eric Hanson.

Anne Rassbach of Colfax and Jason Hasse of Menomonie were married Sept. 28 at the Schwan Retreat in Minong.

A son, Taylor John Kummer, was born Jan. 28 to Steven and Nicole Kummer of Bloomer.

25 years ago – March 3, 1988

Denise Nehring and Todd McMahon, both of Colfax, exchanged wedding vows Feb. 6 at Tainter United Methodist Church.

The Colfax girls’ basketball team won a sub-regional game over Bruce 43-33 as Brigid Schindler scored 17 of the first 20 points for the Vikings and finished with 24. Schindler ended her high school career with a team leading 22 points in a 51-39 loss to Elk Mound.

A former Colfax resident, Frances (Fran) Maves, 34, Las Vegas, was found dead in the parking lot where she was employed of apparent knife wounds.

35 years ago – March 9, 1978

The Colfax Vikings have won a sectional berth at Spooner with a dramatic 74-67 win over Spring Valley in the Glenwood City Regional. Before they played Spring Valley, they won a sub-regional game over Glenwood City 83-68, then had to come from behind by 15 points for a 63-60 win over Osceola.The Vikes canned 21 of 26 free throws to seal the win over Osceola.

The Colfax girls ended their season with a record of 5-14 under coach Pat Groskopp. Janet Rothbauer led the team in scoring for the season while Mary Logslett was the leader in rebounds.

Susan M. Berg of Colfax and James G. Galoff of Menomonie were married Feb. 4 at Holden Lutheran Church.

Ernst and Lillie Sundstron will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at Holden Lutheran Church March 19.

50 years ago – March 7, 1963

A son, John Melvin, was born at Memorial Hospital on Feb. 22, to Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Simonson of Wheeler.

Kathleen Donaldson and Loren Mikula, both of Sand Creek, were married Feb 10 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sand Creek.

After beating Elmwood 61-54 and Elk Mound 55-51, the Colfax boys lost a sub-sectional game to Eau Claire 81-61. Colfax finished in second place in the Middle Borders Conference behind Hudson.

65 years ago – March 11, 1948

A deal was closed on Wednesday of last week making the Suvada-Loftus Motor Company owners of Olson’s Auto Repair building on the south side.

Married in Our Saviors Lutheran Church recently were Miss Herma C. Fruvog and Alvin R. Larson.

Colfax lost one of its most prominent and highly respected business figures when Carl Rolstad, age 61, passed away at his home March 4.

100 years ago – March 14, 1913

After being employed with Running, Martin & Co. for some time, C. W. Larson has opened up a tin shop in the old Roen building on Mainstreet where he is prepared to do all kinds of sheet iron and tin work.

Mrs. Jens Olson died at the home of her son Hans Olson four miles east of the village last Friday of old age. She was past 90 years of age at the time of her death.

Wisely Mr. Wilson changed his mind about postponing the inauguration until April, for baseball will absorb all interest then.
