More than 50 parents of elementary school-age children attended the Elk Mound school board meeting Feb. 17 to ask for the resignation of Ann Rozner, principal of Mound View Elementary.

A son, Landon Keith Burton, was born Feb. 18 to Mike and Belinda Burton, Ocala, Fla.

Tyler Moen, sophomore from Colfax, is a member of the cast of the UW-Eau Claire’s University Theatre production of “Pirates of Penzance”.

There will be an open house to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of Ben and Eda Keltner at the Sand Creek Senior Citizen Center Feb. 28.

The Elk Mound girls remained undefeated after beating Colfax 73-42 as Colleen Heimstead led the Mounders with 22 points while Brigid Schindler scored 27 for the Vikings.

Funds were raised from a bake sale, donations and sale of a quilt at the Area Nursing Home to benefit 20 year old Scott Seehaver of rural Colfax.

Kim Laabs, recently of Appleton, Wisconsin, is the new addition to the Colfax Messenger. His responsibilities will consist of reporting and advertising and all material entering the office for publication will go through him. He will also cover news stories of local impact.

The Colfax boys lost their bid for an undefeated season by dropping their final regular season game to Spring Valley 71-62. Bob Fehr led the Vikings with 18 points while Keehr scored 38 for the Cardinals.

Leo Schindler, Ann Marie Schindler and Jane Johnson, all from the Colfax area have received the Chancellor’s Award for academic excellence for the first semester at UW-Stout.

Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Peterson, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Dunbar, Shirley Moen and Bernice Christianson attended the meeting of Group 1 Wisconsin Bankers Association in St. Paul last Thursday and Friday.

Hudson High won the Middle Border Conference after defeating Colfax 57-50 in the final regular season game of the year. Colfax then used a big first quarter to beat Spring Valley 58-42 in sub-regional play. John Hovre led the Vikings with 17 points against the Cardinals.

Mr. Russel Knutson, former Colfax star athlete and an All-State halfback at  Eau Claire State College, has signed a contract to teach social studies and be backfield coach for Sauk Prairie High School for the coming year. He is currently teaching in Spring Valley.

The annual Red Cross drive for funds in Colfax will get underway next week under the direction of Mr. G. R. Thompson, chairman, who was named to head the drive by the Colfax Women’s Club.

Sand Creek and community lost one of its respected and long time residents on Feb. 27, when Mrs. James Donaldson passed away at the home of her daughter Lillian, now Mrs. Engwald Swensen.

March 7, 1913

At the residence of  Rev. James J. Peterson in the village March 1, Olger Leonard Hanson was united in the Holy Bonds of Matrimony to Miss Agnes Victoria Hanson.

William Suckow who lives out on Route 3, had a very narrow escape with death while engaged with sawing wood with a circle saw. In some un-accountable manner the saw broke and a piece of it hit Mr. Suckow in the foot which nearly amputated it from the limb. It is said the foot may still need to be amputated in order to save the leg.
