HAROLD A. STAUFFER
Harold A. Stauffer, age 88 of Forest Lake, died on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the Birchwood Healthcare Center.
Harold was born on March 31, 1924 in Lawrence, Kansas to parents, John Manasses and Leona Myrtle (Van Deusen) Stauffer. Harold grew up in Springfield, St. Louis and Kansas City, Missouri.
Harold married Jennie “Marie” Mygatt of Kansas City, Missouri on May 5, 1949 at Paseo Assembly of God. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 21, 1943 during World War II and was reactivated during the Korean Conflict in 1952. At this time the Army transferred him to Fort Snelling and he, Marie and son Don moved to the St. Paul area. He worked on missile silos in Kansas and later found work for the Metropolitan Transit Authority as a bus driver for many years in St. Paul. During the summer of 1976 he was driving a city bus in south Minneapolis when a stray bullet came through his window and lodged behind his left eye and he lost sight in that eye which ended his bus driving career. Harold then took a job working for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail sorter. His final job before he retired was working for the City of Forest Lake in the City Maintenance Dept.
In 1980 Harold and his family moved to Tarpon Springs, Florida and later returned to Forest Lake in January of 1982. In 1990 Harold and Marie moved to Harris and lived there until 2010 when they moved to Birchwood Arbors Assisted Living.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents, John and Leona Stauffer; daughter-in-law, Rita Faye Schneider Stauffer and son-in-law, Richard Christophersen, brothers-in-law Kenneth Arnold and Rev. Calbert Cuterline.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, “Marie” Stauffer, son Don and Sharon (Balts) of Glenwood City, WI and grandchildren, John (Priscilla), James (Annette) and Peter (Dorcas); son David of Minnetonka and grandson, Michael; daughter, Sherrill (Wayne Luebesmeier) of North Branch and granddaughters, Joann and Jennie Hodgeman; daughter, Darlene Christophersen of Little Falls and grandchildren, Dannelle, Brent and Nicholas Archibald; son Paul (Della) (Bernier) of Stacy and grandchildren, Adam (Amanda), Joy Burton (Mark), Faith and Phillip; daughter, Katherine and Tom Sternberg of St. Francis and grandchildren Holly Workman (Phil) and Justin (Meagan); daughter, Barb Fulks of Selby, South Dakota and grandchildren, Abigail (Timothy) Quist and Seth Stauffer; daughter, Linda Houn of Minneapolis and grandchildren Amy, Robert Pancake as well as Harold’s 30 great-grandchildren; sisters Jean Cuterline of Ripon, WI and Norma Arnold of Olathe, KS; brother and sister-in-law Rev. Glen and Ada Belle of Tioga, TX; and sister and brother-in-law, Betty & Dewaine Tilden of Souix Falls, SD.
The visitation was held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Full Gospel Fellowship Church (1685 Hwy. 96 East) in White Bear Lake.
Harold’s final resting place is Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
