NELLIE R. MIDDENDORP

Nellie R. Middendorp, age 92, of Prairie Farm, WI died February 10, 2013 at Pioneer Nursing Home in Prairie Farm.

She was born April 3, 1920 to Nelson and Pearl (Stalker) Sabin. She was raised in Hillsdale Township. Nellie married Raymond Middendorp October 24, 1936 in Rice Lake, WI. They farmed in Ladysmith until May 1937 and then returned to Hillsdale Township where he worked with Nellie’s father doing carpentry work. Nellie had done seamstress work from home and lead a 4-H club for 6 years. She taught Sunday school for many years.  She was a member of the Mission Circle & Ladies Aid, where she held officer positions for many years. In the fall of 1950 she started working at Pine Café in Prairie Farm for Herb and Thelma Carter where in May of 1954 they bought the café. Nellie and the girls ran the business until May 30, 1963. Nellie worked as head cook at Prairie Farm high school for two years. In August 1976 she started work at Hilland Drug Store in Barron and continued working there until the 1980s. Ericksons bought them out to build a Mini Mall and she continued working for Ericksons until April 1985 when she retired. She began to do many crafts at her home. In December 1985 they headed for Arizona with their camper, where they spent their winters until the spring of 1996. Nellie enjoyed many years of square dancing from 1970 until 1993 when she had to give it up because of Ray’s arthritis.

Nellie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Raymond; daughter, Nancy Mittelstadt; brother, Dean Sabin; granddaughter, Debbie Wahl; great-granddaughter, Vanessa Mittelstadt.  She is survived by two daughters; Charlotte (Herb) Glaser of Ridgeland, WI; Nina (James) Lewis of Ridgeland, WI; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Nellie is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2013 at United Lutheran Church in Prairie Farm, WI. with Rev. Shelly Schultz officiating. Interment to follow at Sunset Cemetery in Prairie Farm, WI.  Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at Church on Friday. Arrangements were with Rausch-Lundeen Funeral Homes, Dallas & Cameron.
