Chelsea Grambo was the winner of the Colfax Geography Bee for grades 5-8 while John Woolhouse was the runner-up.

A son, Jared Daniel Stoffel, was born Nov. 29 to Chris and Aimee Stoffel of New Richmond.

In boys basketball action, Elk Mound defeated Colfax 66-46 as Josh Fizel and Dennis Arneson both scored 20 points for the Mounders while Andrew Dietsche led the Vikings with 12.

Sue and Marty Austreng of Warrenton, Virginia, are the parents of a girl, Jaedra Noelle, born Feb. 5.

Born to Christine and Michael Tandberg, Eau Claire, a son Andrew Riefe, Jan. 27.

Donna and James Miller of Ridgeland are the parents of a boy, Tyler James, born Jan. 3 at Myrtle Werth Medical Center, Menomonie.

Dennis Schindler was the first Colfax wrestler since 1983 to win a conference championship as he won the 167 pound weight class on his home mat Feb. 6.

Jerry Marko will be the lone Viking representative at the WIAA State wrestling tournament after placing second at the Turtle Lake regional in the 145 pound weight class.

The Colfax boys’ basketball team clinched the Dunn-St. Croix Conference title for a second straight year with a 85-68 win over St. Croix Central. Steve Obermueller scored 24 points and Mark Loftus added 22 in the win.

Kathleen Sena Mattison of Elk Mound and Thomas John LaPean of Menomonie were married Jan. 21 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Menomonie.

The election of officers for the Colfax Co-op Creamery Co. during the annual meeting were Otto Waldbuesser, taking the place of Heth Smith as a director, Vernon Prince was re-elected as treasurer and Leonard Schindler will succeed Lewis Laustad for secretary.

Art Loew placed first at the regional wrestling tournament in Menomonie, Curtis Aasen was second and Jim Seehaver was fourth. Loew and Assen will now compete in the sectional meet for Colfax in Marshfield.

Mr. and Mrs. David Roberts (nee Gail Hammer) are the parents of a son born Feb. 8 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn. He has been named Jay Earl Roberts.

A beautiful winter wedding was solemnized at St. John’s Lutheran Church Feb. 7 between Miss Aline Waldbuesser of Bloomer and Arnold Buchner of Jim Falls.

Colfax High lost in its bid to earn a berth in the Eau Claire District tournament by dropping a 36-19 elimination decision to Stanley High School at the Eau Claire High School gym. Rogstad scored seven points in the loss.

New members of the Grant 4-H club include Phyllis Tiller, Dagmar Strand, Laila Strand, Paul Strand, Beverly Stovern, Bruce Stovern abd James Olson.

February 21, 1913

Next week will be honk honk week in Eau Claire. The first annual Automobile Show will be held at Fournier’s Academy February 25, 26, 27, and 28. More than 30 types of 1913-model cars will be represented.

While hauling a load of straw last Friday, Feb. 14th, Anton
Ingebretson had the misfortune of tipping over. While shoveling snow, the horses became frightened and started out for a “home run.” When the horses got through running and jumping over log piles, barrels and plows and had taken off the corner of the chicken coop, they stopped, and all that was left of the rig was the front bob. Nobody was hurt, but the rig was badly demolished.

At the Colfax Store Company, a 100-pound sack of sugar cost $4.85; a sack of Best of All Flour cost $1.15 per sack in 10-sack lots; five gallons of high grade kerosene oil cost 50 cents.
