BARBARA A. (HOVLAND) HOLMES

Barbara A. (Hovland) Holmes, 72, of Colfax, passed away at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire, on Thursday, January 31, 2013, surrounded by her family.

She was born August 5, 1940, to LaVerne and Muriel (Zingshiem) Hovland. Barb was a lifelong resident of Colfax. She attended Colfax High School and graduated in 1958. Barb worked for many years as a cook for Pat’s Place, Knut’s Restaurant and Lounge, and Exit 45. She was very active with the Girl Scouts enjoying 20 years as a leader. Barb also taught Sunday school, was active in the faith circle women’s group, and church council at Colfax Lutheran Church. She enjoyed taking long walks, knitting, crocheting, watching NASCAR and All Star Wrestling, visiting with family and friends over coffee are activities she loved. Her dog “Baby” was very special to her, providing great love and companionship.

Barb is survived by her three children, Cathy (Don) Johnson of Colfax, Karen (Fritz) Sarauer of Colfax, and David Holmes of Colfax; four grandchildren, Amanda (Matt) Lathrop of New Auburn, Daniel (Afton) Sarauer of Elk Mound, Douglas (Danielle) Sarauer of Colfax, Joshua (Andrea) Sarauer of Colfax; five great-grandchildren, Jayden, Brayden (due March), Peyton, Madison and Wyatt; five brothers, LaVerne Hovland of Ohio, Jim (Linda) Hovland of Illinois, Michael Hovland of Maryland, Richard (Jan) Hovland of Colfax, and Thomas (Christie) Hovland of Indiana; two sisters, Marjorie (Jack) Hagberg of Chippewa Falls and Susan Swisher of Indiana; her dog, Baby; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bob and Chuck Hovland.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday February 7, 2013, at Colfax Lutheran Church, 600 Balsam St., Colfax, WI, with Pastor Les Walck officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday at the church from 1 to 3 p.m. Private family interment will be held at a later date.
