GENEVIEVE I. JACKELEN

Genevieve I. Jackelen, age 89, of Glenwood City, WI died Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Glenhaven Inc. in Glenwood City, WI with hospice.

The youngest of four children, Gen was born September 5, 1923 in the Township of Springfield, WI to Joseph and Irene (Gaffey) Lyons. She was also raised in the Township of Springfield, WI until Genevieve married Clarence Jackelen on October 1948 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Glenwood City, WI. They raised four children and operated a successful dairy farm north of Glenwood City, WI. She was a talented cook and seamstress and she loved to dance. Gen was a accomplished and self-taught pianist and church organist. She accompanied the children’s choir, the polka choir and the adult choir at St. John’s Catholic Church for many years. She encouraged all through her music to “Lift up your heart and be glad”.

Gen is preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence in 2010, brothers Ed and Syril Lyons and sister Mary Adele Tarpey.

Gen is survived by four children: Mary Jackelen and husband John Krueger of Eau Claire, WI; Mark Jackelen and Pamela O’Rielly of New Richmond, WI; John Jackelen and Cindy Thompson and Joe Jackelen and wife Wanda both of Glenwood City, WI. Seven grandchildren: Dena Newville, Ann Newville and friend Todd Nelson, Bridgette Jackelen and Rudy Gil, Tamarah Jackelen, Monica Miller and husband Scott, Gina Monicken and husband Kyle and Kayla Jackelen. Three great-grandsons Tyler Kelly, Jack Miller and Luke Monicken. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013 at St. John’s Catholic Church with Fr. John Long as celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Anderson Funeral Home in Glenwood City on Wednesday January 23, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
