Colfax senior Michael Baumgartner has been named Bremer Youth of the month for January.
2002 Elk Mound graduate Kelsey R. Erickson, Army National Guard private, has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, GA.
The Elk Mound village board approved a two percent rate increase for the village’s water utility.
25 years ago – January 7, 1988
After 18 weeks the big $2200 jackpot at Kirkwood’s IGA has been won by Debbie Wallsch, Rt. 3 Colfax.
The Colfax fire department answered an early Dec. 22 morning fire call to the Jeanne Taylor place on Ct Rd W northwest of Colfax. A 30 X 60 barn was destroyed along with about 1600 bales of hay, a barn cleaner and horse equipment and other equipment.
Viking player Jim Dobbs was the MVP of the Colfax Holiday tournament, scoring 31 points in a 76-49 rout of Cameron, then added 18 points in a 45-42 win over Chetek. Dobbs hit a three pointer to send the game into overtime, then hit another to win the game.
35 years ago – January 12, 1978
Erline Peterson and Brad Holman, both of Colfax, were married Friday, Dec. 30 at the Colfax Lutheran Church.
In girls basketball action, the Colfax Vikettes shot just 17% from the floor and lost to Pepin 29-23.
The Colfax boys were dropped from the unbeaten ranks with a 72-62 non-conference loss to Cameron Jan. 3. Mark Lofthus led the Vikings with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Colfax wrestlers Shane Bohnen placed second and Mike Marko was third at the Chetek Invitational Jan. 7.
50 years ago – January 10, 1963
Six registered bulls from the Heth Smith herd have been sold and shipped to Chetham Dairy, Inc. in Laveen, Arizona.
Herman Gunderson, a resident of Colfax in years gone by, was named third place winner in the home decorating contest in Mondovi this year.
The Colfax boys lost their first game of the season to Boyceville 73-62. John Hovre led the Vikings with 16 points while Bob Bodsberg and Ken Helland both scored 21 points for the Bulldogs.

Marriage vows were exchanged between Grace M. Sorenson and Trygve S. Sundstrom in a double ring ceremony at Stillwater, Minn. Jan 12.
Jean Ione Jensen passed away at age 25 in Union Grove, Wis. She is the sister of Mrs. Neal Bates of Colfax.
A bold daylight steal occurred at the John Higbie farm when thieves made off with 25 gallons of gasoline stored in the barrel on the farm.
“Snort” Gilberts scored 29 points for the city team in a 43-23 win over the Knapp team last Friday night.

The men of the Nordlandslaget of Colfax will serve an oyster supper in Rye’s hall Jan. 24.
Friday, June 13, 1913 is the lone combination of this year that will be given a wide berth by brides, prospective travelers, etc. It is the one Friday the 13th of the year 1913 and already the hoodoo avoiding brigade is making preperations to remain absolutely quiet on that day to prevent the possibilities of trouble.
