A daughter, Brooklyn Adeline Stehling, was born Dec. 21 to Greg and Linda Stehling, Colfax.
Denise Kragness scored 17 points to lead the Colfax girls to a 57-34 win over Milwaukee Marshall at the AAU Holiday Classic at UW-Stout.
Fire broke out in a two-story house at 909 University Ave. in the village Dec. 27. The house was owned by Cynthia Castillo and there was severe smoke and heat damage throughout the house.
25 years ago – Dec. 31, 1987
Colfax graduate Valerie Lorenzen has recently been promoted to the rank of sergeant in the Wisconsin National Guard.
Over 60 items including hats, mittens and scarves were donated by local residents for needy children in the area in a drive sponsored by the Colfax Comets 4-H Club and the Colfax Senior Citizens.
35 years ago – January 5, 1978
Three new businesses will begin operation in the village including Colfax Income Tax Service with Jim Ackerlund serving as the manager, Colfax Veterinary Clinic, owned by Tom Harstad and the Colfax Teen Center, owned by Carsten Dahl.
Jordi Buchner celebrated her sixth birthday Dec. 26 with several family members and friends.
Kathy Bartilson graduated magna cum laude Dec. 18 from UW-Eau Claire with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental and Public Health.
50 years ago – January 3, 1963
Four babies, all boys were born to the following couples: Mr. and Mrs. Mark Murphy (nee Betty Dean) named Thomas Malcom Dec. 22 in Wheatland, Wyoming; Mr. and Mrs. Les Koski (nee Beatrice Peterson) named James Edward Dec. 12; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Benish of Kenosha Dec. 30 (no name given) and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Amble, St. Paul Park Dec. 4, (no name given).
Juel Benson has accepted a position as salesman with the Gagnon Clay Products Company of Green Bay, Wis. After completing his training, he will be working in the Eau Claire area.
A call for bids is being asked for by the Colfax Board of Education for the purpose of building an addition to the high school.
65 years ago – January 8, 1948
Sharon Joan Hoel who was born in Colfax, passed away at her home at age seven in Minneapolis Dec. 31. Funeral services were held in Minneapolis and at the Running Valley Lutheran Free Church, rural Colfax, where she was laid to rest in the church cemetery.
Guy Hanson, Elk Mound, luckily escaped with minor injuries last Friday afternoon when Eastbound Soo freight no. 26 crashed into the rear end of his 1936 Plymouth sedan on the Main street crossing. He suffered three broken ribs, a bruised back and injured his head.
The Suvada-Lofthus Motor Company in Colfax will receive several of the new 1948 Ford trucks in the next few weeks.
100 years ago – January 10, 1913
Martin Christopherson, age 86, died at his late home in Sand Creek on Monday, Jan 6 of general decline, the same day his son Fred Mortenson was sworn in as Sheriff of Dunn County.
The Nordland Ski Club will give their sixth annual ski tournament at the Sagmo Hill Jan. 19. All amatuer riders are welcome and there will be prizes for large and small boys.
Henry Longo, brother of James Longdo and Mrs. Liddia LaForge and Josephine Dyer of Colfax, passed away in Lansing, Iowa on Monday of last week at age 68.
