10 years ago – December 4, 2002

Five new staff members were introduced at the Colfax school board meeting including elementary art teacher Stephanie Ulcej, elementary library media specialist Donnette Mickelson, early childhood Janice Cox, academic center Eric Kyles and high school learning disabilities teacher Scott Newton.

Matthew Feeney was hired as an additional police officer for the village of Colfax and Don Knutson was hired as rescue squad clerical administrator. Both are limited term employees on a one year trial basis.

Jordan Burns, freshman from Colfax, is a member of the UW-Stout men’s basketball team.

Megan Krumrie scored a career high 34 points for Elk Mound in a 67-64 win at Elmwood.

25 years ago – December 3, 1987

Brian D. Aasen, Army reserve pilot from Colfax, has completed a wheeled vehicle mechanic course at the U.S. Army Training Center, Fort Dix, NJ.

Aaron Wagner has been chosen by the Colfax senior class and the faculty as the DAR Good Citizen Award winner.

Area representatives attending the Wisconsin Extension Homemakers Council in Green Bay were Judy Horn, Popple Creek and Virginia Grohn and  Lois Stallman, Elk Meadow.

35 years ago – December 8, 1977

Diane Krall of Chippewa Falls and Jim Satter of Colfax were united in marriage Oct. 22 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Chippewa Falls.

Dr. Thomas Harstad, a 1966 graduate of Colfax High School, announced he will be setting up a veterinary practice starting Dec. 27 in Colfax.

The Colfax wrestling team lost to St. Croix Central 36-15 as Jerry Root, Jim VanderWyst, Jerry Marko and Don Rose were the only Vikings to win their matches.

50 years ago – December 6, 1962

Mr. and Mrs. Lynn F. Keilholz are the parents of a baby boy named Michael Todd, born Nov. 4 at Salt Lake City, Utah.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Valaske, a baby daughter named Betty Jo Nov. 25.

The Colfax basketball team won their fourth straight game with a 73-45 win over New Richmond. John Hovre led the Vikings with 19 points while Jerome Vettrus added 13.

Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne Dehnhoff will celebrate their twenty-fifth anniversary Dec. 9 with an open house at the Colfax American Legion Club.

65 years ago – December 11, 1947

Miss Beulah Lien of Sand Creek and Norbert Buchner of Colfax were married Nov. 29 at Zion Lutheran Church.

Bernie Bierman, head football coach and athletic director at the University of Minnesota, will be the guest speaker at the Colfax High School athletic banquet Feb. 9.

Honorable mention was received by LaVerne Alman, Colfax High School’s outstanding center, on the Associated Press all star football team selection for Wisconsin.

Mr. and Mrs. August Buchner celebrated their silver wedding anniversary at their home with family and friends Nov. 30.

100 years ago – December 13, 1912

Miss Emma Solberg and Mr. Carl Rosenberg drove up from their home in Elk Mound yesterday and were married in Chippewa Falls.

To Whom it May Concern: My wife Flossy having left my bed and board without just cause or provocation, I hereby warn all parties not to trust her on my account, as I will pay no bills of her contraction after Dec. 2. Archie Pooler

Mrs. Eva Carey, age 53, died at her late home in the town of Otter Creek Dec. 6 from general decline. She leaves behind five children to mourn her.
