OLIVE MAY (BURLING) LARSON

Olive May (Burling) Larson, 73, of Eau Claire, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2012, at Dove Healthcare Nursing and Rehab.

Olive was born in Eau Claire on November 5, 1938, to Clarence and Minda (Berg) Burling. She lived in Colfax and graduated with the class of 1956. During her school years, Olive was an active Girl Scout, starting at the Brownie level and played the French Horn in the school band for several years. Olive was a member of Colfax Evangelical Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. After high school, she moved to Eau Claire and attended Chippewa Valley Technical College.

Olive joined Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, where she again taught Sunday school and was chairman of a church group.

In 1959, Olive married Jared Larson in Colfax and they were blessed with three sons. She was a den mother while the boys were in Boy Scouts and involved in their school’s PTA. Olive enjoyed many wonderful years watching her sons play baseball, football and hockey.

Olive worked in the office at National Presto Industries for a short while, and then dedicated 23 years to working at Armours. In 1990, she started working for Holiday Vacations until her retirement. She loved traveling, being a tour escort, meeting people while on trips, camping with her family, crafts, collecting items and watching her grandchildren play ball.

Olive is survived by her sons, Jeffrey (Cindy) Larson of Pensacola, FL, Jason (Carol) Larson of Leander, TX, and James (Kerry) Larson of Blaine, MN; grandchildren, Travis, Alyssa, Justin, Sierra, Jason Jr., Taylor and Ashlyn; sister, Jean (James) Alf; nephew, Jeremy (Brooke) Alf; niece, Jerilyn (Paul) Schmidt; great-nieces and nephews, Eric and Emily Wood, and Jaron and Raelee Alf; and significant other of 32 years, James “Marty” Gallagher.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brother, John Roger.

A memorial service was held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2012, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home WEST CHAPEL, 1405 N. Clairemont Ave., in Eau Claire. Visitation was held from 3 p.m. until the time of service on Thursday, at the funeral home.
