ROY ERNEST MEYERS
Roy Ernest Meyers was born on a farm in Mountain Lake, MN on December 29, 1915 and died at his home in Fountain, CO on June 12th at the age of 96. He was the third son of Ernest and Jankan (Loof) Meyers. After finishing high school, Roy went to Business College and then in 1938 at the age of 23 went into banking.
In January 1942, Roy joined the U.S. Army Air Corp as a 2nd Lieutenant. Following training he was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant and became a pilot flying a B-24 Liberator. As a member of the 13th Air Force in the South Pacific he flew 41 combat missions, the last mission on January 12, 1944. He had a 10 man crew all of whom have stayed in touch over the years through reunions, letters and phone calls. With Roy’s passing, his tail gunner in Oklahoma and his engineer in Illinois are the only surviving members of the crew. Roy left the service on November 15, 1945.
Roy is survived by his loving children Marcia Meyers of Bloomington, MN; Jackie Meyers of Grand Marais, MN; Gary Meyers of Deming, NM; Diane Meyers of Florissant, CO; Doug (Cindy) Meyers of New Richmond, WI and Susan Meyers of New Richmond, WI.
He is survived by 5 grandchildren Karissa Meyers; Jessica (Eric) Klopp; Jenna Meyers; Megan Carey and Heather Carey and one Great-granddaughter Norah Klopp.
Roy is also survived by his siblings Les Meyers of Billings, MT and Ethel Meyers of Rockford, IL. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings Louie, Clarence, Donald and Irvin and an infant sister Gladys.
He will be sorely missed by many other relatives and friends. Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday June 25th at Pikes Peak Christian Church 4954 Bradley Rd. Security, CO with burial at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado on Tuesday June 26th. There will be a memorial service for Roy on Saturday September 15th at 1:00 at the Glenwood City United Methodist Church..
