Gretzlock is Boyceville’s new AD; Dean of Students

by Kelsie Hoitomt

BOYCEVILLE – Earlier this month, the Boyceville Board of Education approved Pat Gretzlock as the new Athletic Director and Dean of Students for the middle school and high school.

Gretzlock had been working for the school as the Activities Coordinator since the fall of 2011.

This job meant that he was responsible for scheduling contest officials, scheduling contests for upcoming school years, scheduling facilities, transportation for all athletic events and helping to coordinate WIAA tournaments.

His new position as Athletic Director will include all of the responsibilities as before as well as having entire oversight of the athletic department.

This means he will now be in charge of coaching evaluations, activities code violations, athletic budgets and WIAA compliance.

“I was approached by administration to become the Athletic Director in order to provide the building principals the time and energy to focus on the educational mandates that our district is faced with rather than being consumed by athletics,” explained Gretzlock.

Having Gretzlock take on the role as Dean of Students will also allow the building principals to attend workshops or conferences away from the school.

“This position will provide me an opportunity to not only grow as a leader, but to come more familiar with the intricacies associated with overseeing a school,” said Gretzlock.

Gretzlock and his wife Paula moved to the Boyceville community in September of 2004.

“We chose Boyceville because she was and still is working in New Richmond and I was teaching in Altoona,” said Gretzlock.

Gretzlock graduated cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1996 with a Bachelors of Arts Degree and a license to teach sixth through twelfth grade social studies, geography, history, psychology and sociology.

Gretzlock taught from the time he graduated until 2007 when he quit to be a stay-at-home dad.

While at home, he earned his Master of Science Degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

He completed his middle school and elementary internships for his Master’s Degree in the Boyceville Community School District under then-principal Kevin Sipple and elementary principal Nick Kaiser.

“It was their mentorship that helped forge a strong connection to the school community, which was instrumental in being hired as the activities coordinator,” shared Gretzlock.

Gretzlock shared that he is looking forward to the challenges he will be faced with in his new positions.

“I am passionate about interscholastic sports and I come in with an eagerness to learn along with an excitement to share our students’ success with others in our community,” said Gretzlock..
