CHETEK — The Boyceville boys’ basketball team opened their season last Tuesday, November 26 in Chetek against Chetek-Weyerhaeuser.
Unfortunately, in the “Battle of the Bulldogs”, Boyceville came out on the short end of the contest, losing 65-22.
First-year Boyceville head coach Colby Dotseth had this to say about his team’s first opponent. “We played a very experienced team in Chetek-Weyerhaeuser, they were aggressive and pressured us very hard and confidentially.”
Dotseth went on to say that he could definitely see in some of the boys that the lack of varsity experience and first game day jitters made some of his players timid.
As a team, the Bulldogs only scored nine points in the first half compared to Chetek-Weyerhauser’s 37.
In the second half, the Bulldogs netted 13 points spread out amongst four players while Chetek-Weyerhauser put up 28 points.
On a positive note, Dotseth said that they had a couple of bench players come in and were physical. In particular, he praised the play of Trevor Hollister saying he was physical down on the low block and really rebounded the ball well and gave the Bulldogs quality minutes off the bench to complement the starters.
Another player of note was Logan Knudtson. Dotseth said he was really aggressive with the basketball and looked to attack the rim really well. Knudtson was also the leading scorer for the Bulldogs with 13 points.
Kyle Bilodeau led C-W and all scorers with 22 points while teammate Sam Grotberg chipped in with 16 points.
Dotseth is hoping that with more practices and having the first game jitters out of the way that his players will come out more aggressive in their upcoming contests.
The Bulldogs played Alma/Pepin Tuesday, December 3 in Alma. They have their home opener next Tuesday, December 10 when they host Cumberland. That will be followed by another home game on Thursday, December 12 when Elmwood/Plum City comes to town to open Dunn-St. Croix conference play.
