ELK MOUND — To no one’s surprise, Elk Mound’s Clare Hallum’s performance over the 2019 softball season earned her an Honorable Mention on the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association (WFSCA) All-District teams for District 1.
Hallum posted a 12-2 pitching record for Elk Mound, who finished 18-5 and in second place in the Dunn-St. Croix conference this season.
In her 67 innings pitched, Hallum gave up a mere 13 earned runs to her opponents while striking out 40 and walking 23.
The junior finished with a 1.36 ERA (earned run average) which was .02 behind the leader of the D-SC, Maggie Wallin of the Glenwood City Hilltoppers.
“Clare is known for her placement of the ball and her change-up which allows our defense to make routine plays on balls that were hit,” Elk Mound’s head coach McKayla Brunner explained. “She isn’t a strikeout pitcher.”
Offensively, Hallum ranked second in RBIs among Elk Mound batters with 18 and led the Mounders’ team with a .476 batting average for the season.
She accumulated 20 total hits and scored 20 runs for the Mounders in her 42 at bats. She also walked seven times and only struck out four times.
“She’s earned 16 base hits and had four doubles,” said Brunner. “On the mound, she’s a rock for our team.”
Brunner will look to Hallum for leadership when she returns for her senior season in 2020 with plethora of experience and talent to bare against the opposition especially in D-SC.
“Clare continues to have a successful softball career and that just shows through her performances, stats and love for the the game,” Brunner stated.
