February 11th-15th, was National FCCLA week. This week is meant to increase awareness of FCCLA and what it offers to high school students and chapter members. Glenwood City celebrated with dress up days and daily challenges that all students were able to participate in. FCCLA can help young men and women become strong leaders by applying Family and Consumer Sciences education to their lives. Also, students can increase their leadership skills by participating in FCCLA competitive events. The competitive events are known as STAR events, which stands for Students Taking Action with Recognition. Members in FCCLA also have the opportunity to travel. They are able to travel locally and nationally through competing, or travel internationally through a Japanese Exchange Program. The Glenwood City FCCLA Chapter has had members who have been able to take advantage of each of these programs over the last 4 years.
On Wednesday, February 13th, seven FCCLA chapter members and their advisor travelled to UW-Stout for the 2019 FCCLA regional competition. All seven members competed in different STAR events and if their project receives a high enough score they are eligible to compete again at state. Makayla Sina competed in Fashion Construction earning bronze. Kaitlin Lee and Makiah Schutz competed in Life Event Planning as a team earning bronze. Alexis Albrecht competed in Entrepreneurship earning silver. Hanna Strehlo and Delaney Quinn competed in Illustrated Talk as a team earning gold. Lastly, Leah Magsam competed in Leadership earning gold. Leah, Hanna, Delaney, and Alexis will be advancing to the FCCLA state competition hosted at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells on April 8th-10th.
The FCCLA chapter was busy with both FCCLA week and regionals last week, and we had success in both events. FCCLA has involved more than 10 million people since its founding in 1945, and we, the Glenwood City FCCLA Chapter, are always looking for new members. It is never too late to join!
