BOYCEVILLE — The Boyceville Lady Bulldogs basketball team had a tough line up last week with games against Chetek-Weyerhauser and Elk Mound.
Last Tuesday evening, November 27, Boyceville hosted the Chetek-Weyerhauser Bulldogs. Boyceville played well and earned its second win of the season, besting its canine counterpart, 41-36.
Boyceville welcomed Elk Mound last Thursday evening, November 29 for the final game of its four-game home stand and the Dunn-St. Croix conference opener for both teams. But foul trouble and an aggressive Mounders’ full-court press throughout the first half led to a large deficit for the Bulldogs that only grew in the second half, culminating in a 62-28 loss to the Mounders.
Boyceville, 2-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference, played its first road contest of the season last evening, December 4, in Plum City against Plum City/Elmwood. The team returns home this Friday, December 7 to take on rival Glenwood City.
Chetek-Weyerhauser
Boyceville took a five-point lead in the opening half of its non-conference game against Chetek-Weyerhauser on November 27, leading 16-11 at the break, and fended off a rally by the visiting Bulldogs in the second half for a close 41-36 victory
“After taking a five-point lead into halftime, we found ourselves down by seven with about seven minutes to go,” said head coach Jolene Bird.
Tyra Kostman led the Bulldogs in points with 17, with a majority of those points coming in the second half of the game.
The first half of the game belonged to Boyceville’s Kady Grambow who had a pair of threes and ten points.
“The girls did a great job applying some full court pressure and was able to cause turnovers which lead to some easy buckets,” Bird stated. “They were also able to contain Ally Olson (CW) to only four free throw attempts the last 11 minutes of the game.”
Rachel Prestrud had a successful night as well with two doubles and a triple to go along with a pair of free throws.

Elk Mound
The Bulldogs welcomed visiting Elk Mound to their court last Thursday, November 29 and struggled from the start to stay with the Lady Mounders. After falling behind early, Boyceville tied the game up at 7-7.
After that it was all Elk Mound.
Junior Emma Ouellette hit a triple for the Bulldogs at the eight minute mark that ended a 16-point Mounders’ run which made the score 23-10.
Ouellette finished second in points after having a tough night filled with fouls and had to leave a minute later after picking up her third foul in the first half. She finished her evening with two triples and a double before fouling out in the second half of the game.
“We got off to a poor start with foul trouble and too many turnovers, for the most part we did a nice job containing Morgan Radtke but we were unable to contain her post presence as well as their shooters,” explained Bird.
Another Mounders’ scoring run to start the second half put the game well out of the Bulldogs’ reach, tallying 19 points to Boyceville’s three over the first eight minutes of the second.
Rachel Prestrud led the Bulldogs with 11 points off of three doubles and was five of seven from the foul line.
Boyceville never gave up against the Mounders, enjoying a small scoring run of 8-2 to close the gap to 56-25, but could not keep their momentum going and took a 62-28 loss.
