BOYCEVILLE — What at first appeared to be a run away turned into a hardwood battle when the Boyceville girls’ basketball squad hosted the Pepin/Alma Eagles in a pre-Thanksgiving, non-conference contest last Monday evening, November 19.
While neither team shot the ball particularly well throughout the game, the Lady Bulldogs did build a nice 22-9 first-half advantage. But the Eagles had other ideas and made a game of it in the second half.
Pepin/Alma kept the Bulldogs on their toes in the second half of the game as the visiting Eagles closed to within five points of the host Bulldogs on four separate occasions including with just 1:11 remaining in the game.

Fortunately Rachel Prestrud, who led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 14 points, sank three-of-four foul shots in the final 65 seconds to seal a 39-33 Boyceville win.
The win evened the Lady Bulldogs’ early season record at 1-1.
Prestrud sank four doubles and a triple to go with her three charity tosses.
Sophomore Ana Evenson had a solid performance and finished with ten points on three field goals and shot .500 from the foul line as she made four of eight attempts.
Eagles’ senior Maci Luff lead Pepin/Alma’s second half comeback attempt as she scored 14 of her game-high 20 point during a second half in which the visitors outscored Boyceville 24-17.
Fellow senior Erin Seifert finished with ten points for the Eagles in a losing effort.
Kady Grambow and Tyra Kostman finished with five and four points respectively for the Bulldogs. Emma Ouellette, Chrissa Kersten and Jensine Boesl each had a two-point hoop.
The Bulldogs headed back to the hardwood last evening, November 27, to host Chetek-Weyerhaeuser in their third non-conference game of the season. They will then open Dunn-St. Croix conference play when Elk Mound comes to Boyceville on Thursday, November 29 to complete a four-game homestand. Boyceville then travels to Plum City next Tuesday, December 4 to take on the Wolves of Elmwood/Plum City.
