Colfax Health and Rehab – 5-2-2018

News for the week of April 22nd to the 28th:

Monday morning craft group continued working on our May Day decorations. Also in the Square was a display of beautiful quilts that were sewn by our beautician, Angie. As everyone gathered to admire them, the talk of making quilts took many back to their earlier days when quilt making was just an everyday part of the life.

Meanwhile in the East Dining room the morning activities included a turtle named Tommy and some bean bags. Add some residents and it makes for an hour of bean bag tossing fun. The afternoon found many in the Lounge area to watch one of our favorite movies, Grumpy Old Men.  Later we gathered for our afternoon Cocktail hour. Residents enjoy this social time while enjoying their favorite beverage.

Tuesday morning found many in the East Dining Room for an hour of Kicking Karaoke. Tony leads the group that combines our favorite songs with a little exercise. After our exercise group, we had a special visitor, Allie the kitchen manager and new baby stopped by. Everyone enjoyed seeing the new little bundle of joy. The afternoon found our Bingo enthusiasts in the Square. Volunteers Michelle, Patty and Eileen always make sure this fun hour runs smoothly. All went away with bags full of treats. Before supper, Jordan led us in an hour of fellowship and devotions.

Pastor Eide of Shepard of the Hill Lutheran church in Elk Mound led us in our Wednesday morning church service. We appreciate her taking the time to come and share with us. Leona was here once again as she came for the service and helped those who needed find the songs in their books. The afternoon was filled with music and fun as one of our favorite entertainers Mary Farber traveled from Chippewa Falls to spend time with us. We laughed, danced and sang our favorite tunes and enjoyed social hour after her show.

Residents gathered in the Square Thursday morning for our monthly Breakfast Club. Before we ate, we discussed menu choices and summertime activities the residents would like. After the meeting Chef Andy treated us to side pork, hash browns, scrambled eggs and toast. There was not a crumb left on any plates!

Later that morning it was cribbage in the Square. Led by Al and David, it was an hour of fun and fast flying cards. Meanwhile other residents were busy finishing up our May Day decorations. The afternoon found a group of residents gathering for our monthly Resident Council. We reviewed next month’s activities and menu and discussed future activities and meals that residents might like. Many are looking forward to the outings we have planned when the weather warms up. After supper Jordan Herrick once again led us in an hour of devotions and fellowship.

On Friday morning Loretta led our Catholics in the rosary, and afterwards we gathered in the Square for Gospel Sing a Long. This activity has been a weekly tradition for many years here at Colfax Health and Rehab, and the residents enjoyed listening to the talents of Kathy on piano and Bruce on the guitar. Friday afternoon, Dime Bingo was played in the Square. It is always a great way to end the week.

Highlights of next weeks’ activities include music by Riverboat Randy and Bev Ward.

Until next week,
Barb Stobb, Activity Director
