Boyceville girls lose heartbreaker against Elmwood/Plum City

By Cara L. Dempski

BOYCEVILLE — It was a hard-fought matchup for the Boyceville ladies at home last Thursday night, but it still was not quite enough to earn their first conference win of the season.

The Lady Bulldogs fell to the Wolves 47-44 December 14, even as they reached a few goals set before the contest.

Coach Jolene Bird was pleased with the scoring she saw, but was disappointed in how many fouls her girls committed.

“Too many fouls and putting them (the Wolves) on the line too many times was the difference in the game,” she said the morning after. “We outscored them in other areas, but couldn’t overcome their free throws.”

Plum City/Elmwood made 18 of it’s 28 foul shot attempts while Boyceville shot just 13 times from the charity stripe making eight.

The game’s highest score may have belonged to Elmwood/Plum City’s Rowan Rupakus, who earned 16 points in the matchup, but the Boyceville girls managed a good scoring performance against the Wolves.

Sophomore Rachel Prestrud logged 13 points in the road game, Tyra Kostman picked up another 11 points, and Hannah Johnson recorded six points. Emma Ouellette and Marissa Dormanen each scored five points, and Alyx Bloom and Ana Evenson each earned two points in the game.

After scoring just 14 points in the first half of action, the Lady Bulldogs ramped up the offensive production in the final 18 minutes scoring 30 points. Unfortuantely so did the Wolves who held on for the three-point victory as Boyceville fell for the fourth time in as many Dunn-St. Croix games.

Boyceville is 1-6 overall.

The Bulldogs will travel to Cameron December 21, and will not play again until hosting Amery January 2.
