After the final 18 hole conference meet played at Spring Valley May 19, the Elk Mound golf team finished in fifth place in the six team field in the final standings with a total of 17 points. Colfax players ended up with a final score of 13 to finish last. Heading into the final match, three teams were tied for first including returning conference champion Glenwood City along with Mondovi and Spring Valley. Although the Hilltoppers Jake Hierlmeier was the individual medalist with his 77, the Buffaloes ended up winning the team title by two strokes.
Leading the Mounders were Jameson Rubenzer with a 103 for 22nd place while Mark Dickenson shot a 106 and was one place behind him. Jonah LaRock ended with a 109 followed by Corey Hagberg with a 114 and Tim Lambele carded a 128. The Mounders, in their second year of the program, will play in their first regional tournament on Tuesday, May 26 at Trempealeau Mountain Golf Course in Arcadia.
“We started slow in the conference meet but improved our scores on the back nine,” Elk Mound coach Annie Kongshaug said. “We are looking to play some of our best golf at the regional meet coming up.”
Colfax had a pair of golfers shoot in the 90s including Trevor Seston with a 93 for 14th place and Trey Gullickson birdied two holes on the back nine, helping him to finish with a 99. Treyton Tiege shot a round of 128, Trenton Anderson ended up with a 131 and Andrew Buckley scored a 133.
“It was a little windy and the players had to deal with a lot of trees on this course,” coach Vince Ross said.
Colfax will compete in a different regional than the Mounders as they travel to Cadott on Wednesday, May 27 to begin tournament play.
