GC track team stacked with experience

GLENWOOD CITY — The Glenwood City boys and girls track and field teams look to have a wide range of experience and agility on their side for the 2013 season.
The team lost just two from last year with Maddie Erickson and Tommy Faber gone to graduation.
This season the team adds 12 new freshman into the mix and they return state qualifiers Isaac Tuttle, Chris Wagner, Adam Holmquist, Ethan Brandt, Charlie Shackett, Jeff Kopacz and Megan Steinberger. There are also 17 other letter winners returning this year.
At State, Tuttle finished seventh in the 100 m dash and 14th in the long jump; Steinberger was 14th in the long jump as well. Holmquist placed 10th in the pole vault.
“We feel that we have a very good team this year if we can keep healthy. The boys are returning everyone from a team that placed third in the sectional a year ago. We also feel that this might be the most complete group of girls that we have had in the past five years,” shared head coach Matt Lamb.
Lamb is in his fifth year as head coach for the track and field teams and will be joined by assistant coaches Bruce Kelm and Tina Rasmussen along with volunteer coaches Dave Steffen, Rick Tiberg, Greg Quinn and Matt Davis.
“We hope to compete for a regional championship and get as many kids to the state meet as possible,” said Lamb of the team’s goals.
The Hilltoppers are scheduled to start their season Tuesday, April 9 at the St. Croix Central High School at 4:30 p.m.
