Winner at St. Co. County Fair is $4,000 winner at WI State Fair

A 12-year-old from New Richmond, who last year took first place in the vocal and piano categories at the St. Croix County Fair in Glenwood City recently gained a first place in the talent competition age 12 and under for his singing at the Wisconsin Junior Amateur Talent competition in the Expo Center at the 2017 Wisconsin State Fair in West Allis.

RayJobe Amundson is a fifth grader at St. Mary’s School and the son of Larry and Felicia Amundson serves at Immaculate Conception Church and as an advent volunteer at New Richmond Health Center nursing home.

Amundson belongs to the Dry-Run-Go-Getters 4-H Club and also takes piano lessons at Northern Lakes Center in Amery.

This year he took home first blue and Reserve Champion, vocal as well as second place red, piano at the county fair.

At his WJAT competition, Amundson wore a complete Johnny Cash outfit including all black vest, hat, shirt, pants and cowboy boots. He sang and played the piano to the song “Ring of Fire” by June Carter.

Amundson took home a check for $4,000 for taking first place, a well as a year’s supply of Jack’s Frozen Pizza, the event’s sponsor.
