Viking softball freezes Blue Devils, Buffaloes

By Cara L. Dempski

The last time the Lady Vikings took the field, they looked sluggish and slow, devoid of their usual energy and pep, and it ended in a loss at Glenwood City.

Just days later the Colfax girls appeared to play much the same way they did against the Hilltoppers for a May 8 home game against Plum City. It was not until the sixth inning that the Viking softball team finally rounded a corner.

The Colfax ladies came from behind in the game to upend the Blue Devils 11-6.

The Lady Vikings then welcomed the Mondovi team to its home field May 9. The team struggled initially against the Lady Buffaloes, but earned a walk-off win in the seventh to move to 8-6 and fifth place in the Dunn-St. Croix.

Colfax ended its week with a May 11 road trip to its long-time rival, Elk Mound, where it lost 4-2.
