Seven GC students compete in FCCLA State Leadership Conference

On Monday April 9th seven Glenwood City FCCLA Members and their advisor traveled to Wisconsin Dells to participate in the FCCLA State Leadership conference.  This conference gives students the opportunity to participate in STAR Events, Students Taking Action with Recognition, and leadership sessions.

Student participants were Emma Scholler, Alex Holldorf, Melina Schultz, Hanna Strehlo, Delaney Quinn, Leah Magsam, and Alexsis Albrect.

Scholler competed in the “Illustrated Talk” STAR event, where she chose a topic and then put together a display board and oral presentation.  She earned a silver medal for her efforts.

Holldorf and Schultz competed as a team in the “Sports Nutrition” category, where they developed an individualized nutritional plan for one of Glenwood City’s student athletes.   They earned a gold for their project.

Strehlo and Quinn competed in “Life Event Planning.” For this event, they needed to manage all of the financial costs of an upcoming event.  They chose to plan for a wedding and their efforts earned them a gold.

Magsam also competed in “Life Event Planning.”  She earned a silver for her project that focused on planning a trip to Claifornia.

Albrecht competed in the “Recycle Redesign” event where she had to create a new product using recycled materials.  She was awarded a silver medal for her project.

All seven students also were able to attend different breakout sessions where they learned about ways to improve themselves their club and their school.  Everyone had a great time and for the first time under their current advisor four students scored high enough to be a National qualifier.  Scholler, Albrecht, and the team of Strehlo and Quinn will be traveling to Atlanta the end of June to present their projects again.  If anyone is interested in supporting these students financially, donations can be made to the Glenwood City FCCLA and dropped off at the High School office.
