“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” party December 16 at Colfax Municipal Building

By LeAnn R. Ralph

COLFAX —  Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Santa and his Elf will be visiting the Colfax Municipal Building on Saturday, December 16.

The party will begin at noon in the Colfax Public Library.

Youngsters will have a chance to decorate cookies and ornaments, and refreshments will be available, too.

The library party is scheduled from noon to 1:30 p.m., and if the cookie, ornament and refreshment stations are all busy, attendees can go upstairs to the auditorium to visit with Santa Claus and his Elf.

At 1:30 p.m., Jolene Albricht, youth services librarian, will do a special reading of “The Night Before Christmas.”

After “Night Before Christmas,” the classic movie, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” will be shown on the big screen in the auditorium.

Concessions will be available before and during the movie as well.

The Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer party is free and open to the public.

The event is sponsored by the Colfax Public Library, the Colfax Municipal Building Restoration Group and the Colfax Commercial Club.

Troy Knutson, president of CMBRG, said he hopes to see a good turnout for the Rudolph party.

“It’s all about making memories,” he said.

The restoration group has been working on planning a variety of events to allow the community to see and to enjoy the municipal building.

The Colfax Municipal Building is on the National Register of Historic Places. The building also is on the state register.

Over the past decade, the restoration group has spent over $100,000 to upgrade the building’s electrical service and to remodel the auditorium.

The Village of Colfax also received a $180,000 energy efficiency community development block grant.

The jury is still out on the most recent project to improve drainage in Tower Park and around the foundation of the municipal building in an attempt to dry out the basement.

The basement of the building has been closed off to the public for nearly 20 years after suffering water damage.

At one time, a variety of groups used the municipal building basement for meetings and other activities.

When the question is answered of whether the water problems have been completely addressed, CMBRG hopes to move onto the next phase of remodeling to bring the basement back as a usable space for community and library activities.

Stay tuned to the Colfax Messenger for additional news of events in January scheduled at the Colfax Municipal Building.

The Looney Lutherans will be at the auditorium January 14, and the Wisconsin Oracle, Hunter Oemig, will be talking about being psychic and doing psychic medium readings January 27 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
