A pair of Colfax Girl Scouts, Nicole Nierenhausen and Serena Secraw, each sold more than 500 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies this year. They are members of Troop 244.
The spring musical at Colfax High School March 29 – 30 and April 1 will be “Annie, Get Your Gun!”
A Colfax Wedding Gala was held March 4 at Whitetail Golf Course.

A retirement party honoring Manley Stene will be held at the Viking Bowl March 15.
For the second time in three years, Elk Mound has won the regional boys basketball championship.
Wayne Fehr has been named president/market manager of First American Bank Wisconsin in Colfax. He has been with the bank since 1972. Fehr is active in the Colfax Kiwanis, Masonic Lodge, Colfax Area Business Association and the Colfax Industrial Development Corporation.

Colfax school board members signed a contract for Lee P. Bjurquist at the March 15 meeting to start April 1 as the new district administrator after learning he had been released from his contract with Plum City.
Gwendolyn Laatch is retiring from her position as a fifth grade teacher after serving at Colfax for 21 years, and Larry Kochendorfer has resigned at athletic director after 21 years, citing long hours and workload.
The Colfax school board discussed budget cuts March 15, including implementing all-day kindergarten to eliminate some transportation costs; cutting teacher positions to 90 percent; eliminating the district’s computer service because “it’s not essential”; eliminating one kitchen staff position; dropping the wrestling program; and dropping junior high sports.

Barbara Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Juel Johnson, became Dunn County’s spelling champion when she bested other county contestants in a spell-down at Elk Mound March 11. The contest is sponsored by the Minneapolis Tribune. Barbara will appear April 15 at the Raddison Hotel in Minneapolis to compete with contestants from many other schools.
Eight Volunteens, Susan Hill, Kathy Nystad, Ann Mortenson, Ramona Rehm, Linda Huber, Bonnie Hutchinson, Eugene Gundlach and John Busse, began work at the Colfax Area Nursing Home Monday.

A novel show patterned after the Television Variety Shows of today will be the theme of the Junior class play to be staged at the Municipal Auditorium tonight (Thursday) at 8:00 o’clock. Over half the Junior class will participate. Admission is 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for students.
Places were set for 130 at the Fathers and Sons Banquet at the Holden Church Thursday, March 13.

Pedestrians are required by law to get off the streets and give emergency fire vehicles the right-of-way. The new cooperative store of the Colfax Produce Co. threw the doors of its place of business open to the public the latter part of February. The company’s place of business is located across the railway tracks on the south side. The building, which was erected by C.E. Guggen and Ole Everson, is 32×112 feet. The building is partitioned off permitting one side for dry goods, shoe and grocery departments.
Dr. J. Beebee reports he heard the sweet chirping of the first robin, this harbinger of spring, on Friday, March 9, and also on the following day he got his first glimpse of that specimen of the feathered tribe.
Due to a heavy snowstorm Tuesday night and Wednesday, passenger train No. 2 due here at 11:15 Wednesday did not reach Colfax till 7:30 Thursday morning, over twenty hours late.
What gives promise of becoming quite an industry here is the Colfax Store Co. in the manufacture of silos. Thus far this season, the C.S. Co. has filled orders for sixteen of these silos of their own manufacture.
