Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at the Daniel Funeral Home Chapel in St. Cloud for Helen Harstad, 91, of St. Cloud who passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at Country Manor Health Care Center in Sartell. Reverend Jeb Reiter will officiate. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Family and friends may call between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Daniel Funeral Home.
Helen was born on August 28, 1920 in Emerson, Manitoba, Canada to the late Nickolas and Anna Sudkyo. She married Felix Harstad on October 8, 1943 at the Army Chapel in Riverside, California and became an American Citizen shortly after. They lived in Belmond, Iowa, moved to Alexandria, St. James and Madelia, Minnesota and lastly to St. Cloud in 1963. Helen was employed in the warehouse at Fingerhut for 37 years, retiring at the age of 81.
She loved family get togethers, spending time with her grandchildren, and casino bus trips with friends.
She is survived by her children, Sharon Harstad of St. Cloud, John (Shelley) Gohman of Cold Spring, Delores (Larry) Crouse of Alexandria, Marlys (Allan) Kruger of Colfax, Wisconsin; ten grandchildren, John, Shawn, Jamie, Robin, Jodi, Jeff, Mindy, Kelly, Tracy and Allison; 13 great grandchildren; and brother, Glenn (Esme) of Winnipeg, Canada.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Felix in 1986; son, Arlie in 2010; one infant grandson; three brothers; and three sisters.
