Loran Standaert, age 90, of Glenwood City, WI, died on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Glenhaven, Inc. due to congestive heart failure.
He was born on December 27, 1926 in Glenwood City, WI to Leo and Marie Standaert (Klinger.)
He married Delores Mae DeLage on October 2, 1945 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Only a few days after their wedding, Loran had to leave for the army where he served until 1946.
A few years after his return from the army, he purchased land 6 miles north of Glenwood City where he operated a Holstein dairy farm from 1950 to 1985. The stork visited them 6 times to deliver their children: Kathleen (Stephen) Koosmann, Winter, WI; Michael (Amie) Standaert, Minong, WI; Margaret (Larry) Larson, River Falls, WI; Karen (Gary) Taylor, River Falls, WI; Barbara Standaert, Glenwood City, WI; and Allen (Amy) Standaert, River Falls, WI.
“Lornie” was a proud farmer in the fact that he started with so little and worked his way to doing well. He ran the farm successfully with the great help of Delores (and the kids doing what they could when they were told. ϑ) He and Delores had their auction on April 1, 1985 and moved to town where they built a new house on Syme Avenue.
Besides farming, Loran enjoyed waltz and polka dances with Delores, playing the harmonica, hunting, fishing, attending a good auction and visiting family, friends and neighbors, especially to play cards. Loran was also known for his quick wit just like his mother. In his later years, he enjoyed mowing his lawn (a different version of cultivating his fields,) talking about farming and his days in the war, watching game shows on TV– and still a competitive game of euchre! When Delores needed to move to Glenhaven due to Alzheimer’s, he went there to spend time with her nearly every day.
Loran enjoyed visits from his 12 grandchildren: Laura, Jody, Tera, Adam, Joshua, Megan, Andrew, Timothy, Daniel, Rebecca, Aaron, and Robert; step-grandchildren: Chad, Laura and Jamie; great grandchildren: Casey, Jacob, Kenna, Joseph, Kaiden, Kaden, Carson, Madison and Cole; step-great grandchildren: Caitlin, Zander, Carissa, Ty, Brody and Canon.
He is further survived by his sister Carolyn Tuttle, great aunt Rosella Maes, sisters-in-law Thelma and Paula, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Loran is preceded in death by his parents, wife Delores, brothers Leonard and Francis and sister, Arlene Peterson.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 5:00 pm with Father John Long as celebrant. Interment of cremains will be in the church cemetery at a later date. Friends may visit at the church from 3-5 pm. Anderson Funeral Home in Glenwood City, WI is assisting the family.
