Lady Toppers start basketball season with experience

GLENWOOD CITY – Even though they lost five players to graduation, the Glenwood City girl’s basketball team looks to have experience on their side this season.

The team returns leading scorer, sophomore Moriah Kuehndorf who had an 8.5 point per game average as a freshman.

Gone to graduation are Megan Stansbury, Sam Wink, Rhonda Ross, Valori Klinger and Samantha Klatt.

The team will be led by seniors Janessa Ullom, Mackenzie Wink, Olivia Weidling, Renita McCluskey and Kelsie Knops who averaged 6.7 points per game.

“We will have a lot of new girls that will be able to help us this year and it will come down to who has put the off-season work in and who is ready to step up to the challenge of competing at the next level,” said head coach Justin Kuehndorf of the teams newcomers.

Kuehndorf, third year head coach, says the girls’ strengths this season will be their ability to apply defensive pressure and play an up-tempo game. The team looks to have depth this season, but they lack in size.

“Our goal is to play hard and compete every time we take the floor”, said Kuehndorf.

The conference returns a majority of their top players and Colfax looks to be the top competitor this season.

The Hilltoppers, coached by Kuehndorf and assisted by Bruce Kelm and Taylor Voeltz will open their season with a game at home against the St. Croix Central Panthers on November 20 at 7:30 p.m.
