Gordon Edward Otterson, age 80, of River Falls, WI passed away Saturday afternoon, January 6 of a heart attack. He was with many family and friends.
Gordon was born October 14, 1937 on the family farm in rural Blair, Wisconsin to Edwin Joseph and Gena Helmina (Dale) Otterson.
Gordon attended Whispering Pines Elementary School and graduated from Blair High School in 1955. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy and Soil Sciences from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1959. Gordon was a 1st Lieutenant in the Army stationed in Germany until 1962.
Gordon worked for a soil testing laboratory in Plainfield, WI. He then entered the manager training program for Midland Cooperative. He managed cooperatives in Waupaca, Blanchardville, Mayville, and Glenwood City. After retiring from Precision Ag Cooperative he worked as a crop insurance adjustor, retiring from Wells Fargo. He enjoyed car races, golfing, watching UW athletics, listening to Brewer games and of course was a life-long Packer fan. He also enjoyed all types of music (especially Johnny Cash) and had a passion for gardening. He and daughter, Susan, just started making garden plans for this coming summer.
Gordon was very involved with the Lions Club for decades, holding the office of secretary for many of those years. He was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Award in 1996. He was proud of his Norwegian Heritage, studying the Norwegian Language, making Norwegian meatballs and attending many lutefisk dinners every fall. He was a member of the Sons of Norway Valkyrien Lodge in Woodville for many years.
In October of 2016 Gordon and Judy sold their home in Downing, WI and moved to River Falls. They have been enjoying making new friends and attending grandchildren functions both in River Falls and St. Charles, MN. Gordon and Judy enjoyed traveling – most recent years by bus trips. Gordon did not have to watch the road so he could check out all the corn crops!
