Glenhaven News Oct. 15-21
Sunday started our week with Catholic Communion and of course we cannot forget the big game between the Packers vs. Vikings that the residents enjoyed watching.
Monday mornings we start off the day with manicures. Then later in the afternoon our baking club got together and made banana crunch muffins for the fall bizarre bake sale.
On Tuesday morning was church service with Forest Immanuel Lutheran. Exercises with Live to Be Healthy came and the residents did some testing to show them their results from all the hard work they have been doing. In the afternoon the residents requested to keep on baking for the bizarre, so that what we did. They wanted to make pumpkin bars with cream cheese frosting, and they turned out great!
Wednesday was a very busy day here at Glenhaven for the residents. In the morning residents went down stairs and got their hair done for beauty shop day. Then over on household E we decided to bake banana bread, it looked so good and you could smell it throughout the building. After lunch there was more requests to bake some goodies. The residents took a vote on what to make and they came up with seven layer bars. A few ladies that use to bake for their church bake sales said it was there favorite thing to make and that everyone loves those kinds of bars. I would have to agree with them myself. Late in the afternoon we got the privilege to enjoy Holy Cross Jam kid’s company while playing Bingo. The residents were thrilled they were here and enjoyed them singing a hymn before they said goodbye. We hope to see them back at Glenhaven soon!
The residents had their exercises with live to be healthy on Thursday morning. They finished the testing part and then continued with the normal routine they have for them. In the afternoon we had some apples donated to us and we peeled and sliced them. They will be turned into pies, cakes, turnovers, and other delicious bake goods. In the evening Glenhaven hosted their yearly Oktoberfest that included residents, staff, and the wonderful people from this community. It was a very eventful night that included an exotic German menu that included sautéed metwurst with apple bacon sauerkraut, German beef roulades, spatzels, German chocolate cupcakes, and many more items. There was also beer and wine sampling, hammer schlagen, raffles, and silent auctions. All the money that was raised during this event, will go to getting the daycare up and running. This will be around the new year.
After an eventful night and week we decided to have a relaxed day for Friday. In the morning staff made popcorn that the residents, staff, and families enjoyed in the afternoon. On Saturday we had Rudy Rudesill perform here, and the residents always seem to enjoy his entertainment. Great job and we appreciate him coming.
