TOWN OF BALSAM LAKE — A father and son from rural Glenwood City were injured, and a Balsam Lake woman killed, in a car accident east of St. Croix Falls this past Saturday.

According to a press release from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a phone call regarding a two-vehicle accident with serious injuries on U.S. Highway 8 near 170th Street in the Town of Balsam Lake at approximately 5:30 p.m. October 14.

On arrival, law enforcement determined a 1998 Chevrolet pickup driven by Jordan Klatt, age 16 of Emerald, had collided with a 2009 Buick sedan entering Highway 8 from the south side of the intersection at 170th Street.

The operator of the Buick, Aundria Schadow, age 38 of Balsam Lake, was pronounced dead at the scene. Klatt reportedly sustained serious, but not life-threatening, injuries, and was transported via ambulance to a Twin Cities hospital for treatment.

Daniel Klatt, age 44 of Emerald, and Jordan’s father, was a passenger in the truck and sustained minor injuries.

While alcohol was ruled out in the matter of both truck occupants, it has not yet been determined if it was a factor for Schadow.

The press release indicates Highway 8 was shut down, and traffic diverted, for approximately two hours during the incident. Agencies assisting at the scene were the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office, St. Croix Falls Police Department, St. Croix Falls Fire Department and First Responders, Lakes Region EMS, Osceola Ambulance Service, Osceola Fire Department, Balsam Lake Fire Department, and North Air Care.
