Elk Mound’s Lew to play in Divison 3 all-star basketball game

By Cara L. Dempski

ELK MOUND — Mounder senior Dane Lew’s mother just had a wish come true.

“She wanted to see him play one more game,” Lew’s father, and Elk Mound eighth-grade basketball coach, Dave Lew said.

Lew was selected to play in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches’ Association’s Division 3 all-star game at JustAgame in Wisconsin Dells on June 17. The Elk Mound senior will just have wrapped up his baseball season and will have graduated only weeks earlier.

The Division 3 game will start at 12:30 a.m., and pits players from northern Wisconsin against players from southern Wisconsin. The North vs. South battles will start at 9 a.m. with the Division 5 game, and will continue with Division 4 at 10:45 a.m. Divisions 2 and 1 will play after the Division 3 concludes, and are scheduled to start at 2:15 p.m. (D2) and 4 p.m.

The all-star girls’ teams will have their opportunity to shine on June 16 when they play their all-star games.

Lew learned of his all-state honors after being named the 2017 Dunn-St. Croix boys’ basketball Player of the Year. He averaged 14.9 points per game, scoring 342 total points in the 2016-2017 season.
