Colfax Health & Rehab News – 11-7-2012
The week started with comfortably crisp autumn weather. Residents watched the Grace Lutheran Church Service on TV on Sunday morning.
Many residents, who are faithful Packers fans, watched as the Packers once again took home a win! REX Classes at 1 and at 6 p.m. were well attended. Residents look forward to these classes 7 days a week. We are big on exercise. Many residents have other individual programs. The programs are designed for each person’s needs. The RNA’s and Therapy Department work hand in hand to keep everyone as flexible and active as they can be which helps to improve their quality of life.
On Monday morning we had Devotions. As the Super Storm Sandy made her way across 17 states, many of the residents talked about comparable devastation as tornadoes roared through this community in June of 1958. The devotions were followed with the reading group. Alice Massie read a story she wrote about a pumpkin. The story was cleverly written from the pumpkin’s perspective. In the afternoon residents came to an Art class. They had fun painting Christmas ornaments. This year one of the Christmas trees will have resident ornaments. Many of the ornaments have been gathered over the years and will be once again be on displayed.
On Tuesday morning we had Devotions. Reading Group and Exercise was led with Cathy Davis. The Bingo games in the afternoon had a full house and everyone won some prizes. The Happy Hour Bar opened at 3:45. Chips and beverages were available for anyone wanting to get together with friends and socialize.
On Wednesday morning Carrie Christianson the music teacher, the kindergarten teachers and their students all dressed in Halloween costumes put on a program singing several delightful songs. Later in the morning Pastor Schweitzer led the church service. Delores played the piano and Linnea came to help residents. In the afternoon Chuck Kirkwood played his trumpet, Lenore Berg played piano and Ed Thompson played the tuba. They were wonderfully entertaining. The music they provided made our Halloween Dance a huge success!
Thursday was November 1st. We took down decorations for Halloween and put up Thanksgiving décor. We played bounce ball in the morning and had a resident council meeting in the afternoon. Many good ideas come from these meetings.
On Friday morning Loretta led Rosary for our Catholic residents. Linnea helped resident at the Gospel Sing. Deloris played the piano as Glen and Julie led the program. They make Gospel Sing so special. In the afternoon many residents played Dime Bingo.
This week we played and we prayed and we gave thanks for the warm comfortable home we have here in the land of Colfax where the men are strong and the women are lithe.
