Colfax Health and Rehab – 6-14-2017

News for the week of June 4th to the 10th:

Many residents and visitors enjoyed the warm Sunday weather to take a walk out in the courtyard. The spirea bushes are starting to blossom, and should be even more beautiful in a few days.

The Green Leaf Crafters gathered in the Square Monday morning to work on a few of our paper projects. Other residents met in the East Dining Room for some exercises and short stories. We talked about spring planting time and how it has changed throughout the years. We took advantage of the warm weather in the afternoon and planted more vegetable plants in the courtyard. While some planted, others met in the Square to get primped and pampered. It was time for a trim and a fresh coat of paint on our nails. Some traded in a light spring color for the brighter summer colors. Cocktail time found residents enjoying their favorite adult beverage along with cheese and crackers in honor of June Dairy Month.

Noodle meet Ball started out our Tuesday morning as residents gathered for an hour of fun using beach balls and Styrofoam noodles. As the residents hit the ball, it was a challenge to see which team could keep the ball on the opponent’s side. In the end, everyone came away a winner and we all had fun and even got in a little exercise in the process. The afternoon found our Bingo enthusiasts in the Square. All went away with bags full of treats. Michelle, Eileen and Cathy make sure the game runs smoothly. During coffee time we were treated to delicious birthday cake in honor of Irene Anderson’s 101st birthday. Some of her family joined in the fun as they played bingo together before enjoying her cake.

Pastor Conklin led us in our Wednesday morning church service. We appreciate him taking the time to come and share with us. Rich Schroetter entertained us in the afternoon. He always draws a crowd as his beautiful voice and talented guitar playing echoes through the halls.

Thursday morning found the Green Leaf Crafters meeting in the Square to begin the process of making coffee filter flowers. We put together groups of 10 filters and then dipped them upside down in pie tins filled with water and food coloring. It was fun to watch them change colors. Now they will dry on a rack for a few days and we will start putting them together next week. We held an open house in the afternoon to honor our staff that graduated this year. Some of the residents wrote some words of advice for the students and then we all challenged our minds with some graduation themed puzzles. Then all enjoyed a delicious cake served by the kitchen staff. We wish them all the best in the future.

The Catholics gathered Friday morning for rosary led by Loretta. Later in the Square was Gospel Sing a Long. We love picking out our favorite hymns. Kathy, Bruce and Veda led us in this hour of music and prayer. Friday afternoon, Dime Bingo was played in the Square. It is always a great way to end the week.

The summer fun continues next week with our annual Family Fun & Food Gala featuring great food and music by Chuck Kirkwood, we will also have a grill out using our Flip Flop Chicken grill, and later in the week, music by Riverboat Randy.

Until next week, stay cool!
