News for the week of May 7th to the 13th:
The Green Leaf Crafters started out Monday by starting a project for our furry friends.
We are making fleece pet beds to sell at our fall craft sale. The fleece patterns are really cute as they are dog prints and yorkie puppies. The residents are getting to be experts at tying the fleece ends, and it wasn’t long and we had one put together. They are really cute and we are hoping we will sell them all. Meanwhile other residents watched Ma & Pa Kettle, or exercised with noodles and foam balls. The afternoon activity was one of our favorites, Wheel of Fortune. Cathy tried to stump us by having us guess some very catchy phrases.
Tuesday morning found us back in the square to work on invitations for our Family Summer Food and Fun Celebration. Later that morning was time for Toss the Ball for some, and watching one of our favorite Conductors, Lawrence Welk for others. The afternoon found our Bingo enthusiasts in the Square. All went away with bags full of treats. Our faithful volunteers Michelle and Eileen keep the game running smoothly. We also enjoy visits from Mrs. Zutter’s students who help us keep track of our winning numbers.
Wednesday morning, Pastor Koch led us in our Wednesday morning church service. We enjoyed her inspiring message, and also singing along to our favorite hymns as she accompanies us on the guitar. Billy Krause entertained us in the afternoon. He always draws a crowd as his beautiful voice and talented guitar playing echoes through the halls.
Lone Ranger fans gathered on Thursday morning to watch an episode of their favorite old time cowboy. Later the morning activities included a turtle and some bean bags. Add some residents and it makes for an hour of bean bag fun. The afternoon found many of the ladies in the Square to get primped and pampered. It was time for a trim and a fresh coat of paint on our nails. Later that afternoon many gathered for our Thursday Cocktail hour. This is a great time to visit with old friends and make new ones while enjoying our favorite beverage.
The Catholics gathered on East for our Friday morning rosary group led by Loretta. Later in the Square we held Gospel Sing a Long. We love picking out our favorite hymns to sing. Bruce, Kathy and Veda led us in this hour of music and prayer. Friday afternoon, Dime Bingo was played in the Square. It is always a great way to end the week.
Next week will be a busy week at the Big Yellow House starting out with a special meal on Mother’s Day and the fun continues as next week is National Nursing Home Week. Special musical guests during the week will be JC Colby and the Colfax 5th grade and middle school choirs. Other special meals for the week will be a Syttende Mai celebration on Thursday and cook out on Friday! As always, but especially during next week, we invite the public to stop by and visit and see what this Five Star Facility has to offer!
Until Next Week, enjoy the beautiful spring weather!
